Homicide suspect charged with first degree murder

NORMAN — The two suspects arrested Friday in connection to the homicide of Patrick Burton were booked into Cleveland County jail Saturday morning.

Del City residents Christopher Cody King, 24, and Mary Courtney Cheyenne York, 19, were booked on several charges.

King was booked for first degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, larceny of an automobile and knowingly concealing stolen property. York was booked on related charges of robbery conspiracy and knowingly concealing stolen property.

With the assistance of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office, the two were arrested Friday night in the area of 29th and Sunnylane in Del City. Investigators also recovered Burton’s truck.

“The department thanks everyone for their help,” police said in a statement released Saturday.

Investigators have now identified and located all four persons of interest in the case. No information has been given on the other two suspects.

No arson charges have been filed yet.

According to police, all of the individuals attempted to use the victim’s credit cards around 6 a.m. Wednesday at an area business.

Firefighters and police responded to a structure fire at 51-year-old Burton’s residence on Villa Drive at 11 a.m. Wednesday. After extinguishing the fire they found Burton, with thermal burns, lying near a bedroom. The family’s dog, Jake, was also discovered deceased in the home.

Burton lived in the home with his mother, Tina Burton, who police said was out of town during the incident.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed Thursday that Burton died as a result of a gunshot wound, and police ruled the death a homicide.

Funeral services for Burton will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in The Chapel of the Havenbrook Funeral Home, 3401 Havenbrook Street in Norman.
