OHP identifies victims from I-35 crash

NORMAN — The collision that left one driver dead and another injured Monday afternoon involved two vehicles in a construction zone on Interstate 35 southbound just north of Main Street.

David Taylor, 63, of Oklahoma City, was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining massive injuries from the wreck. Melanie Stillinger, 55, of Edmond, was driving the other vehicle and was transported to Norman Regional Hospital in good condition with minor head injuries.

According to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report, Taylor was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus Wagon southbound on I-35 on the Main Street off-ramp when, for an unknown reason, he entered back onto the interstate, striking Stillinger’s SUV.

Taylor’s vehicle then rotated into the path of the Stillinger’s vehicle, causing Stillinger to strike Taylor in the driver’s side door. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts, and airbags deployed in both vehicles.

Responding agencies included OHP, Norman police, the Norman Fire Department, EMSStat and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
