Man dies in McClain County wreck

NORMAN — A Choctaw man was pronounced dead at the scene early Wednesday morning after his vehicle left the roadway and struck a culvert.

James Ruck, 30, was driving a 1989 Peterbilt truck northbound on Highway 59 when his vehicle left the roadway. Emergency officials responded to the accident around 5 a.m.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol officials said the vehicle had turned a fourth of the way to rest on the passenger side. Ruck was pinned for about two hours before being freed by the Purcell Fire Department.

According to an OHP report, the vehicle was not equipped with seatbelts or airbags. Weather conditions included thick fog and the two-lane asphalt road was wet.

In addition to OHP, responding agencies included the McClain County Sheriff’s Office, Purcell Fire Department, Wadley’s EMS, Rosedale Fire Department and the Lighthorse Police.
