OHP graded on number of arrests

TULSA — Oklahoma Highway Patrol records show that troopers are being graded on how many tickets they write and the number of arrests they make.

The Tulsa World reported (http://is.gd/2VtIBC ) Sunday that the agency’s Troop L wants troopers to write four tickets for every 10 traffic stops and make 30 arrests each year for alcohol-related offenses.

Highway patrol spokesman Capt. George Brown says the numerical goals are incorporated into the agency’s quality review process for troopers. He says the goals promote public safety.

Brown says the ultimate goal is to reduce the number of traffic crashes.

The newspaper reports that the formulas account for whether troopers work day or night shifts and that troopers are rewarded for making traffic stops in areas where crashes are most common.
