NORMAN — Two Cleveland County residents will be on the ballot for seat 3 of the Moore Norman Technology Center Board of Education in the Feb. 12 election:
· Tammy Maus: Maus is president and CEO of Bright Start Early Education Inc., a child development center serving Norman families for 13 years. Maus has worked for Moore Norman’s Child Growth and Development program, and one of her children is currently a student at Moore-Norman.
Maus has had leadership positions for Southeastern Early Education, the Cleveland County Republican Women’s Club and McClain County Republican Party.
On why she is interested in the MNTC board seat, Maus said, “I believe as a business owner and educator, we must make sure our work force is well-trained and job-ready. Citizens have life changes, and MNTC is a great place to find resources that higher education doesn’t offer.
“Jobs that MNTC trains its students for are crucial, and these jobs can sustain families and lower unemployment. I hope to focus on work-force development and partnering with local businesses to tailor programs at MNTC to the business world’s needs.”
· Andy Sherrer: Sherrer serves as senior vice president for Republic Bank and Trust in Norman, leading a team of bankers who provide banking and wealth management services to area clients.
He served MNTC as small business program coordinator from 2005-2007 and is currently on the Entrepreneurship Advisory Board. Sherrer is also incoming chair of the Norman Chamber of Commerce and serves on the city of Norman Planning Commission.
On why he is interested in the MNTC board seat, Sherrer said, “I have a long history of understanding what MNTC does for the surrounding communities and I see this as a meaningful part of staying connected to the school.
“Moore Norman is uniquely qualified for providing work-force members skills they need and moving businesses forward. I’d like to work within the school to provide quality programs. I want to make an impact within MNTC and the community it serves through collaboration and connecting MNTC faculty with businesses.”
