Sierra Club chapter announces agenda

NORMAN — With the legislature starting Monday, the Oklahoma Chapter of the Sierra Club has reviewed all filed bills and has unveiled its legislative agenda for this session.

“The Sierra Club is proud to support legislation that will help family farmers who are struggling to compete with large industrial operations, legislation that will help expand Oklahoma’s renewable energy industry that has already contributed to putting Oklahoman’s to work and legislation that will help us conserve our most valuable resource, water ...,” said David Ocamb, lobbyist and state director.

The Oklahoma Chapter of the Sierra Club supports:

· Legislation that will eliminate the sales tax on products sold at farmer’s markets (HB 1006, HB 1044, HB 1542, HB 2260, SB 0472)

· Increasing renewable energy goal from 15 percent by 2015 to 20 percent by 2020 (HB 2286, SB 0555)

The Sierra Club is concerned by some pieces of legislation that the group says will threaten to set the state’s environment back. One example is the four pieces of legislation (HB 1412, SB 0023, SB 0053 and SJR 0002) crafted to fight “Agenda 21” and sustainable development.
