Dems breaking out their dancing shoes

NORMAN — Members of the Cleveland County Democratic Party are shining their dancing shoes and airing out their fancy dress for today’s Made in Oklahoma Inaugural Ball.

“President Obama’s victory is certainly cause for celebration,” said CCDP Chairwoman Suzette McDowell. “We want to use this great occasion not only to have a good time, but also to show our solidarity with the president’s goals and to reinforce our commitment to the ideals of the Democratic Party. This is a satellite inaugural ball, one made in Oklahoma for those here who support those goals and ideals.”

The Made In Oklahoma Inaugural Ball will be held at Norman’s Holiday Inn, starting at 7 p.m. DJ Bryan Jackson will provide the music for the ball, and the event will include a party buffet and a cash bar.

The evening will also provide an opportunity to honor those who have devoted time and effort to advancing causes the Democratic Party supports. Three long-serving individuals will receive the CCDP Activist Award. No one knows quite when the awards began, but they have been an annual event for many years, McDowell said.

“We give this award each year to those volunteers who have done outstanding work for the Cleveland County Democratic Party,” McDowell said. “From the day-to-day activities of running the headquarters, to election efforts like get out the vote and Democratic candidate support, our volunteers give of themselves.”
