NORMAN — A 26-year-old Norman man was charged Tuesday in district court with robbery by force or fear, court records show.
Christopher Scott Lowe was arrested Monday afternoon after a robbery at the Bank of the West, 2122 W. Main St. Lowe was arrested after police said they located a vehicle matching the description of one that left the bank shortly after the 12:30 p.m. robbery.
Police said they found the money and a black bag during the traffic stop. Lowe was booked into the Cleveland County Detention Center at 6:03 p.m. Monday on a robbery complaint. No bail has been set yet.
According to an affidavit filed with the charges, Lowe admitted to the charges when interviewed at the Norman Police Department by an FBI agent.
In the affidavit, a bank teller at Bank of the West described the robbery to an officer.
“Lowe places a black tool bag on the counter, states that he would like to make a withdrawal, reaches into the black tool bag and puts his hand into a paper sack and points it at (the bank teller),” the document stated.
The robber then told the bank teller to “put money in the bag and hurry.” The bank teller then put the money in the bag, along with a location device, and the individual left the bank on foot with the money.
The bank teller was unaware of what was in the paper bag over the robber’s hand but assumed it may have been a gun, according to the affidavit.
The bank was the target of a lone bandit in April. David Bayazeed, of Norman, was arrested in connection with that robbery on April 19. He currently is serving a federal prison sentence.
The bank was robbed three times in 2009.
