NOBLE — Noble City Council members voted unanimously Monday to approve property rezoning in anticipation of building an independent living community for seniors south of Maguire Road off State Highway 77.
Monday’s meeting was a follow-up public meeting to last week’s Noble Planning Commission’s meeting, where the measure was recommended for council approval.
City Manager Bob Wade said a few people from the community, including the landowner and a consultant who works with developers, the Carland Group, attended. Wade said questions were posed regarding the quality of the buildings, ownership, maintenance and location.
Wade said the senior community will be in the middle of a residential area. One citizen was concerned about future property values of surrounding structures.
Wade said that although the community is slated for lower-income seniors, residents won’t house their children or grandchildren and, eventually, when the developer plans to build single-family homes, “you probably won’t be able to see this (community) from the road,” Wade said.
Terry Carty with the Carland Group said that the community will have duplexes, garages and a community center complete with an exercise room. They will come in one- and two-bedroom models. The next step is for developers to apply for federal funding through the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency.
