After prom events set for Noble Bears

NORMAN — The Noble High School Parent Teacher Student Association is working with community members, businesses and churches to offer a drug- and alcohol- free after prom lock-in.

Jennie Melton, PTSA president said the group’s goal is to provide a fun and safe alternative to Noble students on a high-risk night. Approximately 300 students will be entertained all night long with games, activities, food and prizes. In past years, PTSA offered the safe lock-in event just for seniors following graduation. This year, the safe night will be hosted following prom. This gives us the opportunity to keep more students safe by allowing juniors to attend as well. However, NHS seniors will remain the focus of this event. Seniors who do not attend prom are welcome to attend the event as well.

As in years past at PTSA’s Project Graduation events, Seniors’ success will be celebrated by offering great prizes to help them with their next journey. Melton said the sponsors felt hosting the safe night following prom instead of graduation will be beneficial in two ways. First, senior students will continue to have a night that honors them for their achievements and offer them a memorable night with their fellow classmates. Second, participating juniors will be encouraged to stay in school and look forward to the privileges granted to graduating seniors during their after prom event next year. This year’s event will be held May 11 at Discover Church in Noble.

“It’s a win/win, and we keep more students safe, which is our ultimate goal,” Melton said.

“We feel privileged and excited to involve more students this year, but with the addition of more students, we need your assistance to make this a successful event.”

Several fundraisers are scheduled to help fund the event including live Easter Bunny picture at Super C in Noble March 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., a garage sale at Noble Hardware April 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., a 5K Mud Run April 13 behind Hubbard Elementary. A golf tournament is slated for April 21 at Westwood Golf Course in Noble. Donations are being sought for the garage sale and sponsors are needed for the golf tournament. Registration information for the Mud Run and golf tournament can be found at www.nobleps.com. For more information, contact Melton at noblehighschoolptsa@gmail.com or at 405-249-2532.
