OKC man convicted of shooting deputy

OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma City man has been convicted of shooting an off-duty Oklahoma County sheriff’s deputy during a robbery outside a city restaurant.

An Oklahoma County jury deliberated about four hours Friday before finding 30-year-old Christopher Baker guilty of shooting with intent to kill and robbery with a firearm. The jury recommended a sentence of life in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 8.

Prosecutors say Baker shot Maj. John Waldenville in the face in May 2011 outside Cattleman’s Steakhouse as Waldenville was taking about $6,000 from the restaurant to deposit in a nearby bank.

Juror Jenny Cox said “justice was done” in the case.

Baker’s attorney argued that two other men shot and robbed Waldenville — who lost his right eye in the shooting.
