NEW: OU tops Texas

By John Shinn

Transcript Sports Writer

There hasn't been a lot to celebrate with Oklahoma basketball this season.

That changed Saturday.

The Sooners picked up their biggest victory of the season with a 80-71 win over No. 10 Texas at Lloyd Noble Center.

How it happened was more surprising than the victory itself.

Willie Warren, who still showed the lingering effects of an injured ankle, only took one shot and freshman forward Tiny Gallon was largely ineffective.

Yet OU (13-9, 4-4 Big 12) led throughout thanks to a game-high 24 points from point guard Tommy Mason-Griffin and 20 from Cade Davis.

The victory was the Sooners' first over a ranked opponent this season.

Texas (19-4, 5-3) was led by Avery Bradley's 21 points. Damion James added 12.

The difference in the game was free-throw shooting. OU was 20-for-28 from the charity stripe. The Longhorns collapsed under a 10-for-27 effort.
