North boys top Southmoore

NORMAN — Norman North boys coach Butch Roberts thinks his team was better the night it beat seventh-ranked Stillwater by 14 points and he’s probably right.

Still, that shouldn’t take anything away from Tuesday, when the Timberwolves were very good, knocking off Southmoore 76-57.

North led by six, 12, 22 and 25 after each quarter and put five players in double figures and 11 players in the scorebook. Also, it took care of the ball, committing just eight turnovers.

“I thought we were pretty efficient,” Roberts said, “and five guys in double figures tells you we shared the ball.”

Blake Knighton led the T-Wolves with 14 points, all in the second half. Marcus Dickinson added 13, all but two in the first half. Lindy Waters added 12, Malcolm Carter 11 and center Kairo Rutledge finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Six of those 13 boards came in the first quarter and helped set a tone for the game.

“That helped us get into our transition game,” Roberts said.

Westmoore girls 59, Norman High 39: Playing without Bethany Cox, who was ill, the Tigers couldn’t keep up with the Jaguars, falling 59-39.

Westmoore exploited its size advantage inside, attacking the lane and using its post players to dominate the paint. The Jaguars blocked four shots and forced NHS into 13 turnovers.

“Good teams, when someone is out, rally,” coach Nichole Copeland said. “They find a way to be better. We didn’t do that tonight.”

The Tigers received a boost from sophomore Channah Cox, who entered the starting lineup and recorded five points and five rebounds

Eight players got on the board for the Jags, with Sydney Chastain leading the way with 12. Taylor Ely led NHS with 12 points. Albany Anderson added 11 and six rebounds.
