community Christian is one step closer to the first undefeated season in school history.
Friday night the Royals downed Southwest Christian 54-8, a game stopped with over 6 minutes left due to the mercy rule, in the two teams' Oklahoma Christian Schools Athletics Association semifinal.
The Eagles actually scored first when Jon Londono caught a 9-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jon Vanover and converted the two-point try.
Jared Owen answered for CCS, running in his first of three touchdowns from 8 yards away with 2:07 left in the first quarter, then the two-point conversion, to tie things up.
"From then on, we pretty much dominated the game," CCS coach Josh Norman said. "We got the run game going, and Jared got rolling down hill. Our defense started playing real well."
Cody Faulkenberry, Blake Nelson, London Smith and Beau Potter all caught touchdown passes from Scott Seymour in the second half, and Owen kept the running game going, taking in two more scores on the ground.
Owen finished with 226 yards on 30 carries.
CCS faces Rejoice Christian, which beat Destiny Christian 54-8 in the other semifinal, next Friday at 7 p.m. for the OCSAA championship.
