MOORE — After almost two months of searching, Moore High School has finally found its man. Former Woodward High coach Scott Myers has been tabbed to take over as the skipper for the Lions football team.
Myers was hired by the Moore School District Monday night at the monthly school board meeting. He was selected out of almost 30 candidates who applied for the job.
“We went through the interview process and the committee felt he was the best person for the job,” Moore school district athletic director Carl Franks said. “We narrowed it down to eight from almost 30 applicants. And they felt he was the right man.”
Myers is familiar with the MHS program after serving as a defensive back coach for three years under former Moore coach Tom Noles. When Bill Bays took over as the Lions head coach in 2004, Myers took the head job at Woodward.
From 2004-07 Myers amassed an 11-20 record and reached the Class 5A postseason once. His record is identical to what Bays recorded at Moore in the same time period.
Bays resigned his position with Moore in late December and is now the head coach at Choctaw.
Myers will have his work cut out for him with two other high schools in the district. Already behind schedule, Myers has to now put his coaching staff together and get to know the players he will be coaching.
But since Myers still has teaching obligations at Woodward, putting the program together will be a tough task.
“We hope we will get that worked out on both ends,” Franks said. “He has obligations still teaching over there. We are looking at the possibility of him bringing in one coach with him. But it depends on how many openings are on the staff.”
