LINCOLN, Neb. — Throwing like a Friday night starter, Oklahoma’s Daniel McCutchen pitched the Sooners to victory Sunday.
McCutchen scattered nine hits and struck out 11 in eight innings and received offensive help from Freddy Rodriguez, who drove in two runs in OU’s 6-2 victory over Nebraska.
The Sooners (39-17, 17-10 Big 12) won two out of three over the Cornhuskers and earned the No. 3 seed in this week’s conference tournament.
The Huskers (39-14, 17-10) ended the regular season with losses in seven of their last nine conference games and in eight of their last 11 overall. They’re the tournament’s No. 4 seed.
The Sooners scored the go-ahead run in the third inning when Johnny Dorn (9-4) walked Brandon Moss with the bases loaded. Rodriguez followed with a two-out single to make it 4-1.
The Huskers pulled to 4-2 on Nick Jaros’ double to left field in the fourth.
After that, McCutchen (7-7) held the Huskers without a hit until the eighth.
The Sooners added two more runs in the ninth off Brett Jensen.
Chuckie Caufield doubled and later scored on Jaros’ fielding error in center field, and Aaron Reza singled and scored on Kody Kaiser’s double.
OU meets No. 6 Kansas at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the first round of the Big 12 tournament in Oklahoma City.
