Hand cleared to play

NORMAN — Prior to the previous basketball season, the Oklahoma women hoped to return to the Final Four, in part, behind the dynamic duo of point guard Danielle Robinson and shooting guard Whitney Hand.

Hand was cleared Monday by team medical personnel for full participation in basketball activities following six months of rehabilitation made necessary by surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

Hand suffered an ACL tear in her right knee Nov. 27 of last year during the Sooners’ fifth regular-season game, an 87-48 rout of San Diego State. She underwent reconstructive surgery in December.

Hand, the 2009 Big 12 Freshman of the Year, was averaging 13.4 points and 4.4 rebounds, while shooting 39 percent from 3-point range, when her season came to an end.
