FORT WORTH, Texas — Terry Henderson led West Virginia with 17 points as the Mountaineers won their third in a row, defeating TCU 63-50 on Saturday.
Eron Harris added 14 points for West Virginia (12-11, 5-5 Big 12), cooling off the Horned Frogs who were coming off their biggest win in program history, 62-55 over No. 5 Kansas on Wednesday night.
Harris’ 3-pointer with 8:39 to go, after Kevin Noreen kept the possession alive with two offensive rebounds, gave West Virginia its largest lead to that point at 51-40.
TCU trimmed its deficit to seven points three times after that but the Mountaineers didn’t let down, building on the lead as the Horned Frogs didn’t score a field goal in the final four minutes.
Kyan Anderson led TCU (10-13, 1-9) with 16 points, while Connell Crossland scored 13.
It was the 1,000th game for West Virginia coach Bob Huggins, who is 722-278. Huggins is in 19th place all time in Division I victories, two wins behind the next coach on the list, Ray Meyer. He’s third on the active list behind Mike Krzyzewski and Jim Boeheim.
West Virginia went on a 10-1 run in the first half that gave the Mountaineers their first lead since 4-3 five minutes into the game. In the run, Henderson hit two 3-pointers in a 45-second period and Harris slammed down a dunk for a 23-17 West Virginia lead with five minutes to play.
No. 22 Oklahoma St. 72, Texas 59: Marcus Smart scored 23 points and No. 22 Oklahoma State cruised past struggling Texas on Saturday, the Cowboys’ fifth straight win.
Markel Brown added 17 points for the Cowboys (17-5, 7-3 Big 12), who struggled offensively for long stretches but used their own tough defense to clamp down on the Longhorns.
The Cowboys shot 38 percent from the field, but Smart found enough room inside and out to carry the Cowboys past a Texas team struggling through its worst season in 15 years under coach Rick Barnes. Smart was 3 of 6 from 3-point range.
Ioannis Papapetrou scored 15 points to lead Texas (10-13, 2-8).
Saturday marked the end of the 23-game NCAA suspension for Texas guard Myck Kabongo, who is expected to play the rest of the season.
Baylor 75, Texas Tech 48: Cory Jefferson scored six of his 15 points in Baylor’s big game-turning run and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Bears snapped a three-game losing streak with a victory over Texas Tech on Saturday.
Pierre Jackson scored 15 points, while Isaiah Austin also had a double-double (13 points, 13 rebounds), for the Bears (15-8, 6-4 Big 12), who avoided their first four-game losing streak in four years.
Jamal Williams’ eight points were the most for Texas Tech (9-12, 2-8), which has lost four in a row.
