Sooners stay perfect on season

NORMAN — Top-ranked Oklahoma remained perfect on the season with a pair of wins Saturday over Kentucky and No. 16 Washington.

The Sooners rolled to a run-rule, 11-0 victory over Kentucky in the first game of the day. Jessica Shults provided a home run while Keilani Ricketts picked up the win in the circle to move to 4-0 on the season.

The second game proved to be more of a test. Washington pitcher Bryana Walker struck out five and gave up just two earned runs. But OU’s Michelle Gascoigne was more than up to the challenge, and she struck out 10 while keeping Washington off the board in the 2-0 victory.

Lauren Chamberlain provided the offense for the Sooners, hitting a two-run homer in the bottom of the third that provided all the scoring for the typically high-powered OU offense.

With the wins, OU moved to 9-0 on the season, its best start since 2007 when the Sooners opened with a 23-game winning streak. It was also OU’s fourth straight shutout.
