Saunders will play vs. A&M; McGee won’t

NORMAN — Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops announced on Friday that defensive tackle Stacy McGee will not play in next week’s AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic against Texas A&M. Wide receiver Jalen Saunders, however, will.

Both were arrested in separate incidents over the last month and both have had misdemeanor charges filed against them in Cleveland County Court.

Saunders has been charged with misdemeanor marijuana possession after he was arrested in Norman less than 12 hours after the Sooners’ regular-season finale on Dec. 1 at TCU.

McGee has been charged with misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and driving with a suspended license after he was arrested by Norman police early Monday morning.

OU announced the decision in a statement released Friday night.

“The information and history in each of the individual matters are unique thus resulting in different participation decisions for this game,” the statement read.

Saunders, a junior, has 53 receptions for 766 yards and three touchdowns this season. He’ll enter the Cotton Bowl after three straight 100-yard receiving games to end the regular season.

McGee, a senior, will not travel with the team to the game. The decision ends his OU career. McGee was suspended for the first six games this season due an undisclosed rule violation. He served a one-game suspension during the 2011 season after he was arrested for misdemeanor marijuana possession.
