TCU can’t slow Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas — Connor Lammert scored 13 points including the go-ahead basket and a circus shot which thwarted a TCU comeback and Texas beat the Horned Frogs 68-59 for its first road win of the season Tuesday night.

Ioannis Papapetrou hit three 3-pointers early in the second half and led the Longhorns with 15. Myck Kabongo scored 12 in his third game back from a 23-game NCAA suspension.

Lammert’s tip-in broke a 48-all tie to put Texas (12-14, 4-9 Big 12) ahead for good. The Longhorns, which came in 0-7 on the road, never trailed. TCU’s last chance to tie came after Lammert’s tip-in, but Nate Butler Lind missed free throws before Lammert scored again for a 52-48 lead.

Garlon Green had 15 to lead the Horned Frogs (10-16, 1-12), which lost their fourth straight since an upset of No. 9 Kansas.

After a three-point play by Demarcus Holland put Texas up 55-50, Butler Lind missed another free throw but TCU grabbed the offensive rebound. Green then missed a shot and Lammert beat everyone down the floor. He turned as he took a pass from Myck Kabongo under the basket and flipped the ball in while getting fouled. He made the free throw for a 58-50 lead.

Green scored 11 in the first half for TCU, including a reverse layup which capped a 6-0 run to get the Frogs within 24-21.
