MIDWEST CITY — The Norman High boys had to get used to what it was like to dominate a game Monday night at Midwest City.

Playing three days after shocking top-ranked Putnam City North, the Tigers were on the road to finally meet the Bombers after poor weather kept them from playing April 16.

NHS played the Panthers from a defensive stance, but turned that around against the Bombers, turning 34 shots into five goals, the first two coming in the first 41⁄2 minutes.

“We took care of business,” NHS coach Gordon Drummond said. “We had some great goals.”

The Tigers spread them out, getting one tally each from Alec Lee, David Nelson, Logan Hammons, Cal Cornwell and Charles Makinde. Cornwell assisted on two of the four he didn’t score.

The victory moved the Tigers to 7-5 overall and 5-1 in District 6A-1.

NHS can win its first district championship since 2002 tonight at Lawton High. A victory over the Wolverines and the Tigers will be guaranteed home-field advantage through the first two rounds of the Class 6A playoffs.

n Norman High girls 4, Midwest City 0: NHS girls coach Bob Byers wanted some more finishing to go with all that shooting, but he still was pleased with a victory following Friday night’s loss to Putnam City North.

The Tigers got goals from Brandy Shuffield, Lauren Goodman, Mackenzie Burkhart and Ally Renfroe. Goodman added two assists.

NHS moved to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in District 6A-1. The regular season concludes at Lawton High tonight. The Tigers and Wolverines kick off at 5:30 p.m.
