NORMAN — Boxing
· NABF title on the line
The North American Boxing Federation (NABF) Light Middleweight Championship Title will be defended by Champion Grady Brewer (28-13, 16 KO's) at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22 at the Cox Center in Oklahoma City. Brewer will be fighting Michael Medina (24-3, 19 KO's) from Monterry, Nuevo Leon, Mexico who is rated No. 8 in the division.
Brewer won the NABF Light Middleweight Title on June 17 by TKO in the fourth round over formerly undefeated Fernando Guerrero. Brewer is from Lawton and also won Sylvester Stallone’s The Contender Series broadcast on ESPN.
Norman's Noah Zuhdi will also be fighting on the undercard, along with several other Oklahoma-based boxers. They include Kyle Sherman and Jerry Wallace.
Volleyball
· Sooners earn honors
University of Oklahoma senior Brianne Barker (Amarillo, Tx.) was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America third team the organization announced today. Senior Suzy Boulavsky (Houston, Texas) and sophomore Sallie McLaurin (Midwest City.) were named to the All-America honorable mention team.
“We’re honored to have three All-Americans,” said Oklahoma head coach Santiago Restrepo. “The honors are well deserved, and we’re extremely happy our program has been rewarded for its success. Brianne is a talented setter, a tremendous athlete and great leader for our program. Suzy has been our most consistent hitter, and it’s a great honor to finish her career with. We’re very proud of Sallie earning this honor as a sophomore. She’s been steady for us and continues to progress.”
Barker was named third team All-American and first team All-Region for the second consecutive year. She commanded OU to a .246 hitting percentage this year and averaged 10.43 assists per set. She was second on the team with 3.07 digs per set. She earned first team All-Big 12 honors and was a 2010 AVCA third team All-American. OU’s .246 hitting percentage was the second highest by a Sooner team under Restrepo, ranking just behind a .262 clip in 2006.
Boulavsky recently earned her first All-Region honor. She led the Sooners with 3.26 kills per set, hitting .291 on the year. Boulavsky averaged 0.77 blocks per set with 96 total. She also earned first team All-Big 12 honors.
McLaurin was an honorable mention All-Region selection and led the Big 12 in blocks on the year, averaging 1.35 per set. She dropped 25 block solos and 137 block assists during the regular season. McLaurin was All-Big 12 honorable mention and was named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year.
Basketball

The Norman Parks and Recreation Department is proud to present the 2012 Winter Junior Jammer Basketball League for boys and girls ages 5-13 years old. New this season to Junior Jammer Basketball are team registrations and registrations with a buddy. Team registrations will play in a team only league and individual registrations will play in a separate recreation league.
Registration deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 4. Forms can be downloaded at www.juniorjammer.com and may be turned in at any City of Norman Recreation Center or the Parks and Recreation office at City Hall.
