Jefferson

Monday is Junior Achievement Day. Students in all classes will participate in activities designed to teach them about enterprise and commerce.

Fifth grade recognition will be 7 p.m. Tuesday. Jefferson faculty and staff would like to congratulate all graduating fifth-graders.

Wednesday, Mrs. Stair will hold a school-wide Blink competition for fourth and fifth grade students. Also that day, students in fifth grade will have another visit with representatives from Longfellow Middle School.

Thursday, Jefferson will have its last awards assembly of the year to celebrate students who are on the honor roll or have outstanding attendance. Visitors are welcome.

The last day of school will be Friday. That day, Jefferson will have its annual talent show. Fifth-graders will provide the finale with the traditional pillow dance.

Norman High School

Norman High School competitive acting and debate squad won the OSSAA championship at the University of Oklahoma April 10-12. This makes the sixth state championship Norman High actors have won in recent years.

Lincoln

Lincoln's Drama Club gave its last presentation of the school year after the assembly Friday. The annual Jog-a-thon was May 9. The Lincoln Lion's Choir performed at the morning assembly Tuesday.

Fifth grade recognition will be 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the gym. Geneva Hill and Michael Riggs were selected to be Lincoln's Masonic Students. Plans are being made for the end of the year.?Beach Day will be Thursday and?the talent show will?be 8 a.m. Friday.

Fifth-grade girls Geneva Hill, Averi Campbell and Olivia Rambo presented a Garage Band workshop to the Monroe fourth-grade gifted students. The girls?demonstrated projects they had created, and taught the Monroe students and their teacher?how to?use?the program.

Geneva Hill presented her audiobook project "The Adventures of Squeakers and Boots" at the NPS Foundation Awards event May 8. This is a project she created with the Garage Band software Lincoln received from a grant provided by the NPS Foundation.

Veritas Classical Academy

The school thanks Julie Serven for being principal for the last four years, Nathan and Kristi Dilley for all their hard work with the yearbook and end-of-year picnic, as well as Lois White for all her behind the scenes touches.?

Veritas is seeking qualified applicants for pre-k, grammar school (Kindergarten through fifth grade) and upper school (sixth through ninth) teaching positions for the 2008-2009 school year. All positions are part-time, but compensation is competitive. June 6 is the first night for the Veritas Mothers' summer reading group. Anyone who has not signed up but wishes to attend should contact Catherine Brown.?Also in June will be the resale of books and uniforms.?The date will be posted on the Web site when finalized.?Parents' day will be July 27.

Not only is the school moving locations but it is saying goodbye to some teachers this year. Debbie Brotzge who has been the third grade teacher for the past two years is taking some time to paint and travel with her husband.? Fifth grade teacher Melissa Mingle is taking some time to enjoy her family.?Other destinations also are calling Latin teacher, Annie Petzinger. Middle school math and science teacher Dave Ryan will follow his wife to a new job.?

Kennedy

Mrs. Ander's kindergarten class recently studied oceans.? They made their own little oceans out of water bottles and little sea creatures as they learned about them. Along with Mrs. Grant's kindergarten, they also studied dinosaurs.? They wrote stories with the theme "if dinosaurs came back."

Mrs. Ashley's fifth grade class created a Jeopardy game using their social studies curriculum.?Students presented their final products to their class by having them play their game.

Fifth-graders also created a mini-society.?During this project they established their own society, printed their own money, opened their own businesses and?set up?the?government.?The name of their society of Afro-Ville.? Upon completion of this unit the students?had a better understanding of entrepreneurship, economics, law, government and ethics.?The students came up with creative products to sell to their fellow countrymen.

Fifth-graders?took a field trip to Incredible Pizza. They raised money selling snacks all year and had a great time on the trip.?They got to eat all the pizza, salad and deserts they could eat, played games and enjoyed the rides.

Truman

Truman students raised $6,574 by jumping rope. They learned how much Truman helps others through jumping rope for heart and other service learning projects.?The donation went to the American Heart Association.

Thanks to the many parents who assisted with Super Kids Day Friday.?Students ran, played and did a wide variety of healthy exercises and games outside.
