For the Transcript
The Alcott Middle School drama department will present the fast-moving superhero saga play "Comic Book Aritst" at 6:30 p.m. today at Norman High School.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. There is no charge for children under 5. Tickets go on sale at 5:30 p.m. outside the auditorium and seating will begin at 6 p.m.
Amanda Mimms directs the show described as family friendly and with something for all ages.
The production features a cast of 31 students coming from each grade level. The production features Clarke Berry, as Stanley Leonardo Sappovitz, an aspiring comic book artist. Stanley works at Wonder Comics for D.C Wunderman, a Mel Brooks-type businessman played by Benjamin Parker. Working alongside Stanley and Mr. Wunderman is the lovely, charming and clueless Viola, played by Ava Maag.
In his quest to make millions, D.C., along with his staff (Drew Arledge, Madison Bell-Schreckengost, Kevin Cotrone, Kelsey Dawson, Turner Pipes, and Taylor Rogers) inadvertently unleash the villainous Doctor Shock Clock, played by Luke Roberts. As Dr. Shock Clock, and his Minutos (Trisha Arora, Dalyn Boyd and Hannah Lobban) terrorize all of New York City, Stanley's dream of becoming a comic book artist comes true in a peculiar way.
Magically his drawings come to life and an unlikely band of superheroes emerge to save the day: the narcissistic Star Guy (Talen Hester), the super-speedy Triple Time (Elliot Springer), the environmentally conscious Blossom (Katherine Dawson) and Wombat Woman (Megan Smith) a marsupial grouch with a heart of gold.
Helping to move the story along are narrators, Mitchell Barrett and Kelsey Bennett. Bucking the trend of faceless, bland narration, our two storytellers gleefully take part in the action.
A group of 12 students rounds out the cast playing a variety of roles that represent the people of New York City. The ensemble actors are Allie Berry, Madison Breedlove, Janis Endicott, Mercedes Harris, Melia Hawk, Bryonna McKenzie, Hannah Musselman, Peyton Powers, Alex Rivas, Robyn Wheelock, Alix Yaw and April York.
