Finalists announced for NPS teacher of the year

Transcript Staff Writer

The search has been narrowed to five finalists and one will be named Norman Public Schools' teacher of the year at the annual Celebration of Excellence banquet April 29 at the National Center for Employee Development.

Twenty-two teachers were named site teacher of the year, and the educators represent each school in the NPS district including the alternative education center. A staff development committee interviewed the candidates and chose the top five educators. The finalists are Ronna Finley, Laura Elizabeth Hutton, Dan Nolan, Lisa Raiber and Alisa "Lisa" Stieg.

Finley spends half of each school day teaching pre-kindergarten and the rest working with the gifted and talented program at Monroe Elementary. She previously taught in the Edmond and Oklahoma City Public School districts.

Hutton is an eighth-grade mathematics teacher at Whittier Middle School. The educator has five years of teaching experience and has spent her career in the Norman school system.

Nolan teaches current issues, advanced placement European history and international problems at Norman North. In addition, he educates people trying to earn their GED.

Before Nolan taught at NNHS, he spent six years at Norman High instructing economics, geography, AP European history, contemporary and world history.

Raiber is a Title I reading specialist at Eisenhower Elementary. She has 24 years of teaching experience and has spent the last seven years at Eisenhower.
