Three months after the north Alcott Middle School gymnasium roof collapsed, the Norman Public Schools Board of Education will consider schematic designs for replacing the roof during its regular board meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday at the Curriculum Center Building, 131 S. Flood Ave.
School employees discovered the roof collapse inside the north gym Dec. 11. The structure collapse is believed to be a result of a buildup of ice and water on the roof that led the beam to fail and fall on the building. School was canceled that week because of the ice storm.
According to the agenda, board members will review the plans and decide whether to approve and authorize to proceed to the construction document phase.
In addition to the Alcott project, the board will review construction documents and vote whether to proceed to the bid phase for fire suppression improvements and installation of a wood floor in the competition gym at Alcott Middle School.
Board members also will be presented with construction plans and decide to proceed to the bid phase for installing air conditioning at Norman North and North High school gymnasiums, according to the agenda.
Norman voters approved the projects when they accepted a $43 million bond issue in December.
The board has scheduled an executive session for Monday's meeting to discuss whether to re-employ or re-assign NPS administrative employees for the 2008-2009 school year, the agenda states. They will vote on the matter after board members return to open session.
The agenda indicates, the NPS board will consider a proposal for auditing services for the current school year and related services for the 2008-2009 school year.
According to the agenda, board members also will receive an update report on the Citizens Advisory Council and listen to a progress report of the district's technology plan.
The agenda states the board will be asked to approve or table the continued employment for the 2008-2009 school year of certified teaching staff already on a teaching contract.
