Local students selected as SWOSU orientation leaders

American Staff

Four local students were among the thirty Southwestern Oklahoma State University students who were recently selected to serve as orientation leaders on SWOSU's Weatherford campus.

Those students include Jackie Johnson of Moore; Maxine Quaye, Allie Shoemake and Jessica Speegle, all of Westmoore.

As orientation leaders they will serve as mentors in this fall's eight-week freshman orientation courses taught by SWOSU faculty, administration and staff.?

Jena Skarda, a staff member for the SWOSU New Student Orientation program, said the students are already involved and responsible for a large part of the orientation session for incoming freshmen. The students will also help facilitate Dawg Day activities held during the first few weeks of the fall semester.

The orientation leaders were selected through an application and interview process. The students are enrolled in a two-hour leadership course this spring taught by Rebecca Manney, recruiter for Admissions and Recruitment; Tiffany Hawkins, assistant director of Career Services; and Skarda.

The first New Student Orientation enrollment session for incoming freshmen is March 13. Additional NSO enrollment sessions are April 4 and 22, June 11, July 14 and August 15. Each of the enrollment sessions offers students the chance to meet current SWOSU students and new freshmen, visit and enroll with a faculty advisor within the major they have selected, and have all their questions answered.
