Speaker series to begin Thursday

NORMAN — The United Church of Norman-UCC, 1017 Elm Ave., will host a speaker series, “The Progressive Sermon I Always Wanted to Preach….” The series will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday and features Joe Meinhart, Ph.D.

The six-part series is intended to address evolving theological thinking, currently taking place in progressive Christian churches.

Subsequent speakers include Dr. Lavonn Brown, Dr. Barbara Boyd, Dr. Tom Boyd, the Rev. Mike Bumgarner and the Rev. Phil Fenn.

Meinhart is the assistant professor of Sociology and Justice Studies at Oklahoma City University, where he also is director of the Oikos Scholars Program, an interdisciplinary scholarship program which focuses on social and ecological justice issues.
