NORMAN — A tradition for 47 years, McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church, 419 S. University Blvd., will host its Candlelight Carol Service at 7 p.m. on Sunday.
There will be five choirs ranging in ages from kindergarten to first grade, cherub and angelus choirs and the adult chancel choir, performing a variety of Christmas favorites and new arrangements of Christmas songs.
“We also will have soprano soloist Skye Singleton performing “O Holy Night,” the Carillon Ball choir, music selections performed by our principal organist, Dr. Vicki Schaeffer, and a Christmas blessing from our Senior Pastor Linda Harker,” Dr. Richard Zielinski, director of music ministries at McFarlin, said.
The first Candlelight Carol Service at McFarlin was presented to the community in 1965.
“Forty-seven years ago, Dr. John Yarrington, McFarlin’s music of music, organized this event to bring the people of Norman together for an evening of musical worship. I have heard it from many people, ‘Our entire family feels that when we attend the McFarlin’s Candlelight Carol Service, we finally focus on the true message of Christmas,’” Zielinski said.
The concert is free and will include selections such as “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing,” “Away in a Manger,” “O Come All Ye Faithful,” and more.
