NORMAN — The second annual Norman Community Menorah Lighting and open house for Lohmann’s Good Things will be from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at 710 W. Main St., right next door to Old School Bagel Café. Free dreidels, a star of David or bouncy ball will be available to children of all ages.
In his store, Roland Lohmann, proprietor, carries Judaica including hand-stitched prayer shawls from Israel, Challah covers and raided egg bread covers as well as fun items such as a plaque proclaiming “Shalom y’all.” Many Chanuka products are available as well.
“The Judaica that I carry is what we need to celebrate our holidays and live a Jewish life,” Lohmann said, adding that his collection of Judaic products “helps Jews stranded in Oklahoma feel cared for.” Lohmann said he will carry Kosher food items as the community requests them but now he carries Jelly Belly candies which are Kosher.
But Lohmann’s carries many other items as well, including Christmas items, cakes, Advent calendars and books to name a few. Candies at the store include Godiva, Bissenger and Cocopotamus truffles as found in Lohmann’s booth at the Norman Farmer’s market. He offers vegan products as well.
For thirsty customers, he carries 36 varieties of soda and coffee. Other items include Blue Q products including gift bags, pouches, purses and coin purses and hand sanitizers.
Shoppers have already discovered the goodies in the store.
“I love it,” Pat Williams said while shopping. “A friend told me it’s a happy store and I must come down. It’s very neat. It’s so cheerful.”
Dick Albreski, accordionist and customer visited the store with his wife, Evie and said, “Evie and I were there this morning and its amazing.” Albreski sent an email to the entire Oklahoma Accordion Club membership, encouraging them to visit the store and attend the community menorah lighting where Eli Davidsohn, a prestigious accordionist from Dallas, will provide music. Lohmann, an accordionist himself, said Davidsohn is the son of Holocaust survivors who performs regularly at Bar and Bat Mitzvahs and weddings.
“I’m going to keep sponsoring this community menorah lighting here every year until we get a synagogue in Norman, then I’ll donate the menorah to them,” Lohmann said, pointing out that the menorah is the same as the one in front of the Sony building in New York City.
