Senior Minister Rusty Tugman will continue the “Dear Church…” sermon series with the lesson “Letter to Smyrna.” The sermon text comes from Revelation 2:1-7.

“Blinded By Sin” is the theme for the morning message. John 9:41 is the text for the sermon as Pastor Clark examines how Christ illuminates the reality of sin. The evening service will feature a continuation of the series in Ephesians with Ephesians 6:17 serving as the passage for a sermon titled, “The Sword Of The Spirit.”

Sunday’s sermon is titled “Refusing” based on Luke 4:1-13 with the Rev. David Spain preaching at both morning services.

On the First Sunday in Lent, the Rev. Dr. Bob Rice will continue his sermon series on “The Ten Commandments” at both morning services. His sermon this week, “Hallowing God’s Name,” is based on Exodus 20:4-7 and Matthew 6:7-13. The first of a six-week Lenten study begins at 7 p.m. in the parlor.

Sunday is the Sunday of the Canaanite Woman, in Tone 4 Eothinon 4. The Epistle reading is St. Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians 6:16-7:1. The Gospel reading is from St. Matthew 15:21-28.

The choir will sing “Until I Found the Lord,” by Andre J. Thomas. The children will have time with Randall during the service as together they discover what is inside the mystery bag.

Senior Pastor Ronnie W. Rogers will speak on “Four Characteristics God Uses.” Sunday evening, he will speak from Hebrews on “Why Jesus Died. Trinity Equipping Classes will start at 5 p.m. Sunday. Class topics are “Disquieting Realities of Calvinism,” “Self Defense,” and “The Art of Marriage.”

For the first Sunday in Lent, the sermon will be titled “Tempted for Us,” based on Luke 4:1-13. The second Wednesday Lenten soup and salad supper is at 6:30 p.m. and the Vespers Service at 7:30 p.m. with the sermon titled, “O Dearest Jesus.”
United Church of Norman — UCC
The story of Jesus’ temptations in Luke 4:1-13 will instruct the sermon given by the Rev. Warren Jensen. This will be the first of the Lenten sermon series built around the theme of “Simplicity.” The first Sunday’s sermon will focus on Jesus’ attitude and teachings regarding the environment.

Pastor Joe Summerville’s message for the first Sunday in Lent focuses on Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness and how baptism helps Christians overcome temptation. Wednesdays during Lent will feature a soup supper at 6 p.m. followed by evening prayer at 7 p.m.
