Church continues speaker series

NORMAN — The United Church of Norman — UCC’s speaker series, “The Progressive Sermon I Always Wanted to Preach…” features its fourth speaker, Dr. Tom W. Boyd, at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The six-part series is intended to address evolving theological thinking, currently taking place in progressive Christian churches. Subsequent speakers include the Rev. Mike Bumgarner and the Rev. Phil Fenn. The lecture will take place at The United Church of Norman — UCC, 1017 Elm Ave.

Boyd is the David Ross Boyd Professor Emeritus of Philosophy and Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Oklahoma. He holds a Ph.D. in religion from Vanderbilt University.

Boyd’s His writings, made up of articles and book chapters, include such pieces as “Is Spirituality Possible without Religion?” “Is Humanism an Ideology?” “Is Rabbit Running with Jesus?” and “Positive Thinking: Magic, Science or Religion.”
