Church note’s

Norman — Alameda Baptist Church

Pastor Phil Ratliff will deliver the message “Trust in theLord,” from Proverbs 3:5-6 during Sunday morning worship. Ratliff’s message for evening worship will be “Faith verses Works,” from Titus 3:5.

Alameda Church of Christ

Senior minister Rusty Tugman will continue the “On Your Mark” sermon series Sunday with the lesson “Esther and Rahab.”

Brookhaven Baptist Church

Pastor James L. Anderson will preach a message Sunday, “Jesus Makes Changes in You,” from Luke 19:1-10.

CrossPointe Church

Pastor Joe Grizzle will begin a new series Sunday on “The Greatest Love Story Ever Told.” This week the focus will be on what Jesus’ death on the cross means.

First Baptist Church

Sunday, Dr. Wade Smith will continue the Lenten preaching series “28 Minutes A Day” with the sermon “Stumbling or Building Blocks” during the Classic Blend Service and LifeSong Services Sunday morning.

First Church of Christ Scientist

Sunday’s subject is “Substance.” Golden Text is from the King James Bible: Ecclesiastes 3:14 (to second :) “I know that, whatsoever God doeth it shall be for ever: Nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it:”

First Presbyterian Church

On the Fourth Sunday in Lent, Dr. Bob Rice will preach a sermon titled “Greed and the Giver of Mercy,” from 1 Kings 21:1-7 and Matthew 5:7 at both morning worship services. Communion will be administered at both services.

Grace Presbyterian Church

Eddie Jensen will deliver a sermon based on Genesis 29:31-30:24 titled “Baby Battles,” Sunday morning. Sunday evening, Jensen will deliver a devotional.

Holy Ascension Orthodox Church

Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Great Lent and it in commemoration of the Righteous Father John of the Ladder of Virtues in Tone 7 / Eothinon 7. His Grace, Bishop Basil, will be in attendance. The Orthros Gospel is from Saint John 20:1-10. The Divine Liturgy Epistles is from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Hebrews 6:13-20. The Gospel is from Saint Mark 9:17-30.

Memorial Presbyterian Church

Sunday morning’s guest minister is the Rev. David Terrinoni, a graduate of McCormick Theological Seminary who is Chaplain of the 72nd Air Base Wing at Tinker Air Force Base and is a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force. His message is “Reconciliation,” from Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32. The evening service, The Fount, will be led by the church’s youth and young adults.

Morning Star Center for Spiritual Living

Kathy Smith will speak on “Books that invite us to experience the heart of God.” She will discuss “The Shack” by William Paul Young and “A Course in Miracles.” Smith has been the facilitator of “A Course in Miracles” discussion group that has met Tuesdays at Barnes & Noble Bookstore. 

McFarlin Memorial United Methodist Church

The Rev. Dick House will preach in the Sunday morning sanctuary services and the Rev. Randy Wade will preach in the morning LifeLine service, both from the sermon series “Encounters on the Way — The Journey, The People, The Cross,” with the sermon titled “Blind Bartimaeus,” from Luke 18:35-43.

Norman Unitarian Universalist Fellowship

Mary Francis will present “Pennies For Peace,” detailing an ongoing Oklahoma effort to raise funds to build a girls school in rural Afghanistan or Pakistan by April 22, when proceeds for the project will be presented to Greg Mortenson, who will be the featured guest at the University of Oklahoma School of Engineering’s 100th anniversary celebration.

Northeast Baptist Church  

Dr. Ed Sasnett will preach the sermon “The Gospel Defined,” from 1 Corinthians 15:1-15 in the late morning service, and there will be no early service this week only. In the evening service, Sasnett will continue his series on “The Christian Doctrine of Hell.”

NorthHaven Church

Dr. Mitch Randall will bring the message “Ambassadors of Reconciliation,” from 2 Corinthians 5:1-21 Sunday. Music will be a cello solo “Lamento” by Gabriel-Marie played by Rachael Ridenour and accompanied by Leslie Downs on piano.

St. Michael’s Episcopal Church

Fr. Alan Sutherland will lead a Lenten study group titled “I Am the Good Shepherd” Sunday evening. The event is designed for all ages and will be preceded by a soup, salad and sandwich supper.

St. Stephens United Methodist Church

The Rev. Amy Venable’s Sunday sermon is “When Rest is a Verb and Work is a Noun,” from Joshua 5:9-12. The church will participate in “One Great Hour of Sharing,” a worldwide observance of the social justice work of many denominations and also take a collection for the United Methodist Committee on Relief.

Trinity Baptist Church

Sunday, Senior Pastor Ronnie W. Rogers continues his series on the book of Revelation. Sunday evening he will present “the State of the Church.”

Trinity Lutheran Church

For the fourth Sunday in Lent, the pastor’s sermon will be “The Compassionate Father and the Two Sons.” The message for the Wednesday Lent Vespers service will be “Lord, I Would Not Leave Thee.”

Unitarian Universalist Christian Church

J. Alva Brockus will present the sermon “Will and Grace” Sunday. The sermon was written by the Rev. Marlin Lavanhar of All Souls Unitarian Church in Tulsa

University Christian Church

Pastor Dr. James Taylor will preach Sunday morning from his “The Authority of the Spirit” series, “The Gift of the Spirit,” from 1 Corinthians 12:1-11.

University Lutheran Church

The fourth Sunday in Lent will feature an early contemporary service followed by a traditional service in the morning. Talk Back, an overview of the lessons and sermon from the morning, meets Sunday night.
