Quartz Mountain has been incredible. Now the first week winds down and I look back. I have learned new things and created new relationships. I am worn out already, with a week to go. I will press on to achieve more greatness in the next week.



Cate Lynn, Westmoore High School, Orchestra/Oboe:



Today, our only day off, is going to be quite rewarding. First, we'll attend "Celebration of the Spirit", a beautiful program honoring Quartz Mountain donors who have passed away this past year. Several faculty and students will be performing varying musical pieces. After the all-camp photo, we can either be checked out by our parents or stay at the camp and relax. I'm opting for staying here to relax. After taking it slow for today, the entire camp will gear up for another long, hard, but incredibly rewarding week.

As the week comes to a close, I am writing this blog. Last night, we had a

camp dance party in the courtyard. It was so much fun! At one point, it

even started raining. My friends and I all partied and had so much

fun! Today, though, is our day off from classes, which is very

exciting! I am going to a musical theatre dance workshop with some of

my girls and at night its karaoke, which should be interesting. I wish

I could write a ton more, because there is so much to say, but I don't

have enough time! There's so much else to be done!

As I look down at the Institute from atop a small mountain, I feel a

sense of accomplishment. Last night's concert from the choir and

orchestra was quite amazing. In the fashion of Quartz performers, the

choir did more than just sing; they took the roof off the house with

grand voices in a musical performance professional singers would

appreciate. After that, the orchestra presented a lush musical scape

with a sound so powerful as to invoke strong reactions from all

present, especially me, as I've never performed so intensely. With

these thoughts in my mind and the whole of the camp in my sights, I am

certain the next week will prove to be as wonderful.
