Julie Bragg, Mount Saint Mary High School, Photography:

Hello readers!

Quartz so far is wonderful. I am learning everything from seeing the smallest detail in a photograph to different methods of photography. We started improv on Sunday and it is so much fun. I learned so much about other people.

Yesterday the photography class went to Mangum, Oklahoma. Taking pictures around a place I'm familiar with is awesome.

DJ Handy, Noble High School, Orchestra/Percussion:

So, I'm a percussionist, and today our section practiced a jibo (gee-bo). A jibo is an African American hand drum beat. I believe we're playing it for an ensemble. Afterwards, everybody practiced with each other for around two and a half hours. We have good music and a great conductor. After rehearsal, we had an improve class. That was fun! I am now walking to class. I have already made so many new friends.

Michael Stafford, Norman North High School, Orchestra/Clarinet

So far, Quartz has been infinitely better than any other music camp I've been to. The facilities are really nice, and the scenery is beautiful. It's good to play in an orchestra where everyone is dedicated and extremely talented. The music we're playing is great and our conductor is very charismatic. I'm really exhausted so far, but I guess I didn't come here to sit at the pool all day. I have a feeling that the camp will be very rewarding.

Cate Lynn, Westmoore High School, Orchestra/Oboe

Today started off quite nicely- an early wake up, followed by a walk and pilates. Morning rehearsal in orchestra went by quickly, practicing the same piece the entire time. Tomorrow night is the orchestra conductor's turn for the faculty showcase; I and another oboe player, Kathryn, volunteered to be guinea pigs in front of the entire camp. It's going to be interesting and little nerve-racking, but lots of fun. I'm in my fourth day of OSAI (this is my first year) and every night, I can't wait for the next day! This is truly a one-of-kind experience.
