NORMAN — Oklahoma officially stretched its roster Friday with the confirmation of six players enrolling for the spring semester.
Freshman tight end Taylor McNamara and 2011 signee Trey Metoyer joined junior college transfers Kass Everett, Brannon Green and Chaz Nelson, along with 2011 signee Jordan Wade, on campus for the spring semester.
The spring semester started at OU on Jan. 10, but McNamara’s and Metoyer’s enrollments were delayed by the NCAA clearinghouse. Both were recently cleared to come to school.
McNamara, a tight end out of Westview High School in San Diego, recently played in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl and is a four-star recruit by ESPN.com and Rivals.com. He is ranked as the No. 2 tight end nationally by Rivals.com and is listed as the No. 15 player in the state of California by the same outlet.
Metoyer was a member of the 2011 Oklahoma signing class and spent last semester at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va. The wide receiver was named a five-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com in 2011 and was ranked the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation by Rivals.com. A native of Whitehouse, Texas, Metoyer finished his high school career with 259 receptions, the second-best total in Texas high school football history. His senior year he hauled in 87 receptions for 1,304 yards and 21 touchdowns, his third straight year with at least 15 receiving touchdowns.
Everett, Green, Nelson and Wade all started school when the semester began.
Everett earned first team Southern California Football Association honors in 2011 as a defensive back. The Philadelphia native played in seven games and compiled 25 tackles, three tackles for loss, five passes broken up and one fumble recovery.
A highly respected run blocking tight end from Fort Scott Community College, Green was named to the All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference second team in 2011 after finishing the season with 15 receptions for 213 yards in eight games.
Nelson, a Garden City Community College product, was recently named a NJCAA first team All-American and was also named the 2011 Jayhawk Conference Defensive Player of the Year. Nelson had 96 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 9.5 sacks, forced four fumbles, four pass breakups and an interception returned for a touchdown.
Wade, a member of the 2011 signing class, was the No. 8 defensive tackle in 2011 according to ESPN.com. The Stony Point High School product from Round Rock, Texas was a four-star recruit by ESPN.com, Scout.com and Rivals.com and had 40 tackles and five sacks in 2010, playing on the same defense as current Sooner P.L. Lindley. As a junior, Wade had 77 tackles, 14 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and six pass breakups.
OU will announce the remainder of its 2012 signing class Wednesday during National Signing Day.
