Notebook: Caleb questionable

Outside of the ankle injury to Brandon Caleb, Oklahoma emerged from the Kansas State game in pretty good health.

Sooner coach Bob Stoops wasn't ready to give an announcement of Caleb's status for this week's game at Nebraska Monday night.

"He's a little bit sore, but we'll see how he goes throughout the week," Stoops said.

Caleb is second to Ryan Broyles in every receiving category with 26 catches 408 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Stoops said left guard Brian Simmons is still out owing to a knee injury suffered against Texas. Simmons has missed the last two games and a definite timetable for his return hasn't been set.

"Probably not for another couple weeks," Stoops said. "I'm guessing there, because I'm not sure, but I know he's not playing this week."

Moving the chains

One the of the biggest reason's OU's offense has looked a lot better in the last two games has been its play on third down.

Saturday night against Kansas State, the Sooners were 10-of-13, and 10-of-10 over their six touchdown drives. Landry Jones was 6-of-6 for 74 yards on third down during those scoring drives.

For the season, OU has a third-down conversion rate of 43.3 percent (26-for-60), which is third best in the Big 12 Conference behind Texas A--M (51.8 percent) and Iowa State (45.8) percent.

Back in the BCS

The Sooners also made their first appearance in this season's BCS standings coming in at No. 24 when the third set of rankings were released Sunday. Since the introduction of the Bowl Championship Series in 1998, OU has been ranked more weeks at No. 1, in the Top 5 and in the Top 10 than any other program.

A--M time set

The kickoff for OU's Nov. 14 game against Texas A--M was established Monday. The game will begin at 6 p.m. and be televised by Fox Sports Net.
