Sooners will be all over the tube

By Scott Moore

Oklahoma fans will have plenty of chances to see the Sooners on television this basketball season. The Big 12 released its schedule Thursday and all 16 of OU’s conference games will be available, with 10 to be aired nationally. Kansas and Texas are the only other conference schools that will have all of their games on television.

It may not boost attendance numbers, but the Sooners have several marquee names coming to town, which should draw plenty of interest.

The Sooners open conference play Jan. 10 at Kansas State and two days later open their league slate at home against Texas in a game to be televised nationally by ESPN (Cox channel 29). OU’s next four games will also be nationally televised.

ESPN has the Sooners’ Jan. 17 contest at Texas A&M.; The Sooners play host to Nebraska on the 21st and Baylor on the 24th, with both games being broadcast by ESPNU (Cox channel 253)

The Sooners won’t have another national broadcast until they at play at Baylor Feb. 11 on ESPN2 (Cox channel 28).

During the critical stretch run to end the season, OU will play at Texas Feb. 21, then welcome Kansas to Lloyd Noble Center two days later. Both games are on ESPN. The Sooners follow with two road games: at Texas Tech Feb. 28 and at Missouri March 4, before hosting Oklahoma State March 7 for an ESPN game that closes the regular season.

OU will play on ESPN’s Big Monday three times: against Texas Jan. 12, at Oklahoma State Jan. 26 and against Kansas Feb. 23.

The Big 12 tournament is March 11-14 at the Ford Center, with the championship game scheduled for 5 p.m.

For the first time, the bracket will run Wednesday through Saturday.

That also means, for the first time, the NCAA Selection Committee will have an entire night to digest what happened at the Big 12 tournament before deciding which conference teams go where in the 65-team bracket.
