COLUMBIA, Mo. — Is it possible to steal a game from a team yet to win a game in the Big 12 Conference?
Maybe not, but how else to describe the Oklahoma women’s 62-59 victory over Missouri?
The Sooners rebounded from Thursday’s 31-point loss to No. 1 Baylor with a 62-59 victory over the Tigers.
OU prevailed despite 33.3 percent shooting (20 of 60) and only two points from Aaryn Ellenberg, even though the Sooners’ leading scorer played all 40 minutes.
They also survived the foul trouble of junior guard and team captain Whitney Hand, who spent 10 minutes on the bench as coach Sherri Coale was forced to use her economically.
Point guard Morgan Hook led OU (13-6, 5-3 Big 12) with 14 points, but contributed to the shooting issues, hitting just 5 of 14 from the field.
Nicole Griffin and Kaylon Williams split time in the post, but both came up big, with Griffin netting 12 points and Williams 11. Combined, they made 8 of 14 shots. The rest of the team made 12 of 46.
Sharane Campbell only made one field goal in six tries, but she earned eight free throws and made every one on the way to 11 points.
OU trailed 31-28 at the half and didn’t escape the Tigers so much as lead when the game ended. The second half included 14 lead changes. OU’s biggest lead in that span was four points at 35-31 and 60-56.
With moments to play, Hook hit two free throws to forge the final score. Missouri’s Liene Priede missed a 3-pointer to tie the game as time ran out.
Missouri’s Christine Flores led everybody with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Morgan Eye added 13 points for the Tigers (10-9, 0-8).
OU returns to action at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Kansas. The game will be the Sooners’ third in six days.
