Sooners pick up sweep on the road

FORT WORTH, Texas — Coming off an upset loss on its home court to Wichita State, Oklahoma turned things around Saturday, winning on TCU’s home court in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-23) sweep.

OU moved to 14-5 and 3-1 in conference matchups. The Horned Frogs fell to 13-5 and 2-3.

“It’s always great to win on the road in the Big 12,” Sooner coach Santiago Restrepo said. “That’s a very key moment in our season right now. It’s good to get the first road win in conference play.”

The Sooners got a big match from freshman setter Julia Doyle, who dished out 30 assists, but also contributed 10 digs and four kills while amassing a .571 hitting percentage.

Doyle’s setting prowess played a big role in the Sooners getting great games from their top hitters. Morgan Reynolds led with 12 digs and hit .417. Sallie McLaurin added nine digs and hit .562. Keila Rodriguez added eight kills, hit .412 and contributed 18 digs.

“Julia is going to have to perform like that day in and day out,” Restrepo said. “I thought she did a very good job, setting the key players for us. We had mentioned to her before today that she needed to set a lot more to Morgan Reynolds and Sallie McLaurin, and it started to click later in the match for her.”

Yvonne Igodan led TCU with 11 kills. Meghan Horio contributed a match-high 19 digs.

The Sooners return home for their next two matches, playing host to Kansas on Wednesday and Baylor on Friday.
