Stacy McGee arrested on DUI complaint

NORMAN — Oklahoma defensive tackle Stacy McGee was arrested by Norman police early Monday morning on a complaint of driving under the influence and for driving with a suspended license.

Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office public information officer Meghan McCormick said McGee was booked into the Cleveland County Jail at 1:20 a.m. He was released after posting bail around 8 a.m. Monday.

McGee, a 22-year-old senior, played in the Sooners’ final six games this season, logging 14 tackles and one sack. He missed the first six due to an undisclosed violation of team rules.

OU released a statement Monday afternoon that said OU coach Bob Stoops was aware of the situation and “will address the matter after all pertinent information is available.”

The Sooners face Texas A&M in the AT&T Cotton Bowl on Jan. 4 in Arlington, Texas.

The arrest likely means the end of McGee’s career at OU. The fifth-year senior graduated earlier this month with a degree in human relations.

However, this marks his second bout with legal trouble in the last two years. McGee was suspended for the 2011 season opener after being cited for marijuana possession in February 2011.

OU leaves for Texas on Saturday. A decision on McGee’s status for the bowl game is expected by then.

McGee is the third player to run into legal trouble since the regular season ended.

OU starting wide receiver Jalen Saunders and Arizona transfer Cortez Johnson were arrested and charged with marijuana possession less than 12 hours after the Sooners’ 24-17 victory over TCU in the regular-season finale.

Johnson, a defensive back, is sitting out this season due to NCAA transfer rules. Last week, OU coach Bob Stoops would not comment on Saunders’ status for the bowl game.

“We’re handling it internally and we’ll see how it goes once everything has been determined,” he said.
