NORMAN — Transcript Staff

Oklahoma rolled to its seventh-straight victory to start the season with a 3-1 win over Iowa on Friday in the first game of the 2013 Kleberg Bank College Classic at Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.

The Sooners rode another dominant pitching performance from left-hander Dillon Overton. The junior tossed eight shutout frames, fanning nine and holding the Hawkeyes (1-3) to seven hits. He improved to 3-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 0.56.

Sophomore closer Robert Tasin worked the ninth inning and picked up his second career save, striking out one.

Shortstop Jack Mayfield led the way at the plate with three hits while outfielder Max White drove in two runs. First baseman Matt Oberste hit safely for the seventh straight game.

Sasha Kuebel (0-2) took the loss for Iowa. He gave up two runs on eight hits.

White picked up his RBIs in the sixth and eighth innings. Catcher Anthony Heremlyn added the insurance run with an RBI single to score third baseman Garrett Carey in the top of the ninth.

The Sooners face tournament host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 6 p.m. today at Whataburger Field.
