A marquee matchup

NORMAN — Oklahoma rose in the latest BCS standings released Sunday night. It jumped up one spot to No. 8 after the 52-7 victory over Kansas.

The slight move secured a meeting between top 10 teams when OU faces No. 5 Notre Dame at 7 p.m. Saturday at Owen Field.

The Irish are also No. 5 in the latest Associated Press Top 25 and USA Today coaches poll. The Sooners are No. 8 in the AP poll and No. 7 with the coaches.

The meeting between OU and Notre Dame will mark the first between two top 10 teams at Owen Field since then fifth-ranked OU faced second-ranked Texas Tech on Nov. 22, 2008. OU won that game 65-21.

‘GameDay’ location set: OU athletic director Joe Castiglione announced on Twitter Sunday night that ESPN’s “College GameDay” will broadcast from the South Oval on OU’s campus.

The ESPN show will be in Norman for the first time since the 2008 meeting with Texas Tech and the sixth time since 1995. OU is 5-1 with “College GameDay” on its campus. It beat the Red Raiders in 2008, Missouri in 2007, Oklahoma State in 2003, Kansas State in 2001 and Nebraska in 2000. The lone loss came in 1995 when fourth-ranked Colorado beat the 10th-ranked Sooners, 38-17.

Jones getting hot: Landry Jones threw three touchdowns against the Jayhawks and has thrown seven touchdown passes in the last three games. The more impressive part of his performance is he’s only thrown one interception (against Texas) in the last three games.

“He was just excellent with his reads,” OU coach Bob Stoops said.

Jones’ touchdown pass was a 44-yard bomb to wide receiver Kenny Stills. There was no run-and-catch. Stills caught the ball in the middle of the endzone.

“The pass to Kenny (a 44-yard touchdown pass), the defender was in good shape and (Jones) dropped it six inches beyond his reach and into Kenny’s chest,” Stoops said. “Landry is really playing comfortable and taking what they are giving him.”

Jones was asked if it was the best pass he’s thrown during in his 46-game career at OU.

“It’s one of them.” he said, “That’s for sure.”

More takedowns for Jefferson: Safety Tony Jefferson led OU in tackles with 11 against the Jayhawks. Eight of those stops came in the first quarter. Jefferson leads the Sooners with 48 tackles this season.

Sticky hands: Safety Javon Harris had two interceptions against Kansas and now has four this season.

“You have to give that up to everyone else on the defense. The quarterback gets pressure, and he throws the ball away. We knew that was going to happen. I just happened to be at the right place at the right time, reading his key,” Harris said. “I just did what I was supposed to do. I’m just going to continue to do that. I told the guys earlier, ‘no fly zone’ and I’m sticking with that. If it’s going in the air, it’s going to get taken down, taken out of the way.”
