U.S. situation may not end well

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

To justify raising the debt ceiling, President Obama put forth the metaphor that only deadbeats go out to eat and then refuse to pay the bill. I’d add that only deadbeats go out to eat and expect someone else to pay the bill. I think only idiots conduct their fiscal activities without a budget. Outside the beltway, if you can’t afford it, you don’t go out to eat.

A more apt metaphor would talk about the clown who goes into a bar, says free drinks for everyone, tries to pay the bar tab with counterfeit money and expects his great-grandchildren to bail him out of jail.

Sorry to be such a buzz-kill, Mr. President, but “deadbeat” is a pale word to describe the situation we face. Whichever metaphor is used, this story will not end well.
