Confusing MAPS and school bonds

The MAPS projects have been successful in revitalizing Oklahoma City public projects. Schools have benefited from the sales tax as have various other public venues.

MAPS 3, an extension of the sales tax is on the Dec. 8 budget in Oklahoma City. It has generated some organized opposition which has the potential to bleed over to the Norman School Bond Issue.

It won't be the first time voters are confused on what they are voting on. The television ads encouraging "Yes" and "No" votes are expected to begin next week.

A rally against the plan was held on Oklahoma City Hall steps Tuesday. About 100 people showed up to rally against the MAPS 3 proposal.

The two projects are unrelated other than they are on the same day and continue taxes already in place. One is a $777 million sales tax extension to make improvements in Oklahoma City and the other is a five-year, $110 million bond issue to invest in Norman public schools.
