Just don't order pumpkin waffles

First, it was canned pumpkin. Then came the waffles.

Shortages of certain food staples can cause concern around the holidays. Reporter Nanette Light found the (not so great) pumpkin scare last week.

Libby's, which dominates the canned pumpkin market, says unusually wet field conditions have impacted the pumpkin harvest. Heavy rains kept the growers from getting the pumpkins out after they were cut and many rotted in the fields.

Stores got fewer cases than they ordered and cooks looking to stock up before Thanksgiving may be out of luck.

Kellogg's, which doesn't have much to do with pumpkins, says breakfast cooks who counted on Eggo waffles are in trouble. Production interruptions at two of the four plants that make the frozen waffle have caused shortages.

In the end, we may have to actually cook the leftover Halloween pumpkins and whip up some waffles from scratch. Cookbooks and the Internet are full of recipes.
