Researchers first thought swine flu vaccination recipients would need two doses to protect them. Now, with the vaccination in short supply, it appears one dose is enough.
The World Health Organization says countries that have made vaccinating children a priority can administer a single dose. U.S. regulators have recommended that children under 10 should be given two doses of the swine flu vaccine.
That may not happen unless the shortage of vaccines improves. Europe's drug authority, EMEA, said the swine flu vaccines it has licensed should be given in two doses at least three weeks apart, to all age groups, according to The Associated Press.
U.S. authorities are trying to get vaccination campaigns going as quickly as possible to avoid the winter flu season. A statewide blitz for the Oklahomans who fall into the categories is planned Saturday.
