Thursday's "Dump the Pump" rally was planned long before gasoline prices spiked near $4 per gallon but the timing is perfect.
Motorists are encouraged to take the bus to work, school and shopping on Thursday. Rides are free. Passengers get a T-shirt just for getting on board. A celebration concert will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Abe Andrews Park.
Our publisher tried to use the bus one day from his home in west Norman. It can be done but some walking and planning is necessary and it often takes much longer than it would driving a vehicle, according to his blog account of the experience.
For planning purposes, the routes are available online at www.cart.ou.edu. Web site users can also plot their route through a Google transit map which notes the closest stops.
