Thanks for the hospitality

NORMAN — Editor, The Transcript:

To the OU Sooner Nation: This past weekend, I made the trip to Norman to watch two competitive football teams square off in a game that, indeed, had fans from both teams noticeably anxious prior to kickoff.

For my first trip to a very intimidating football atmosphere, I was uncertain as what to expect as a Kansas State fan, proudly displaying my purple and letting it be known that I was unquestionably cheering for the opposing squad.

From the moment we began our tailgating in the “Elm lot” on Saturday to the minute we packed our bags and headed back to Manhattan on Sunday morning, our group was treated with unbelievable sportsmanship and affability from every single person wearing crimson and cream.

Almost immediately upon erecting our purple and white tent, we had several OU alum make their way over to us, welcome us to Norman and thank us for making the trip. This hospitable attitude continued all afternoon long, and it was certainly our pleasure to socialize with all the Sooners in our area.

Now, everyone who may be reading this knows the outcome of the game, and that Norman is a town where losing a football game to the visiting opposition is about as rare of an event as there is.

Regardless, your fans were unyielding in their sportsmanship, congratulating us for our team’s victory and once again thanking us for making the trip. I can only hope reciprocity finds all Sooner fans making the trip to Manhattan for the game next year.

On behalf of myself and all the other Wildcat fans with whom I have spoken who had a very similar experience this past weekend, thank you, Sooners, for making Norman a place that will bring us back for many football games in the years to come.
